TEMPERATURE CORRECTION
Above 27 0C add 0.0007 towards the reading of hydrometer for every 1o C. Below 270C subtract 0.0007 from the reading of hydrometer for every 1
o C. Example The correct sp. gravity at 27o C. of an electrolyte of 1.230 at 40 o C will be:
1.230 + (40 - 27) x 0.0007 1.230 + (13 x 0.0007) 1.230 + 0.009 = 1.239
PILOT CELL Select one of the Cells in the battery for use as 'PILOT' Cell to indicate the condition of the battery. TOPPING UP The surface of electrolyte should be maintained at the level of plate group
equaliser bars by the regular addition of distilled/deionized water. Low electrolyte level should be avoided to over-come the problem of sulphation and loss of capacity. BATTERY COMPARTMENT Make sure that the cells are
tightly packed in the trays and that the trays are properly secured in the compartment to prevent movement. The battery terminal leads and intercrate connections should be arranged to prevent any undue strain on the battery terminals. All
cables should be of ample length, but so arranged that they will not be trapped between trays or between trays and battery compartment available. VENTILATION OF BATTERY COMPARTMENT Continued operation at excessively high temperature
will shorten the life of battery. A free flow of air over and around the cells will help to control the electrolyte temperature. MAINTENANCE IN SERVICE The Cell tops should be kept as clean and dry as possible. Wipe off any water
slipped on the cell covers when topping up. If at any time the cell tops are found to be damp with electrolyte they should be wiped over with a cloth moistened with water. Dry thoroughly by wiping with a clean cloth. All metal parts other
than leads should be coated with vaseline or petroleum jelly to protect them against corrosion. Do not use oil or grease. The Vent plugs should be kept free from accumulated dirt of grease. Clear the openings in the vent plug by rinsing them
in water. Keep the Vent plug securely locked in place. They should only be moved when taking hydrometer readings or adding water. BATTERY OUT OF SERVICE If it is necessary to store a battery, then it is advisable to
give it an equalising charge before it is returned to service at an interval of about a month. EXIDE ENGINE STARTING BATTERIES are wholly manufactured in Pakistan. The Company has a highly qualified technical staff able to offer
you advice on choice of battery and maintenance. This advice is freely available.
