  • CHARGING

ELECTROLYTE FILLING

Fill the battery with dilute electrolyte of 1240 sp.gr. + 0.010 at 27oC and then give a rest for 12-15 hours. Adjust the level if dropped.

INITIAL CHARGING

The battery should be charged at 7-10% of 5 hours rated capacity and reading taken every one-hour. Charging should be continued for 24-30 hours or until the voltage and sp.gr. remains constant for 5 successive hourly readings.

The Charge should be reduced upto 50% if temperature at any time exceeds 40 ~C and increase the time proportionately. However, the maximum permissible temperature during charge is 52 0C (125 0F).

RECHARGE

The charging rate can be set at 14-20% of 5 hour rated capacity, but the current should be reduced to about 1/2 when gassing starts. A recharge is necessary if the battery is used at ir-regular intervals or if the battery is taken out of service for some time.

Sp.gr. as an approximate measure of state of:

Fully charged 1.250 (1.245-1.255)

Half discharged 1.160(1.155-1.165)

Fully discharged 1.100
