  • CHARGING

REMEMBER SAFETY:

Wear protective glasses, gloves and clothing when' handling Sulphuric acid or electrolyte.

PREPARATION BEFORE BAITERY INSTALLATION:

o Remove used battery from the vehicle by first disconnecting the negative terminal (ground terminal) which is connected to the car to avoid the danger of short circuit.

o Inspect the cable and connecting parts. If corrosion is found, scrub them with a wire brush and clean them with water to make a perfect connection.

o When a new battery is put into service, it should preferably by identified be putting a date code.

CHARGING A BATTERY:

o Charge the battery at a charging rate as recommended by the manufacturer until all cells are gassing freely.

o Charging should be continued until the voltage and specific gravity of electrolyte of each cell remains constant for three successive hourly readings.

o During the course of charging if electrolyte temperature increases above 125o F (52o C), reduce the current and increase charging time proportionately or suspend charge.

o Charging should be carried out in a well - ventilated place.

o When charging is finished, turn off charger and disconnect the battery.

ADJUSTING ELECTROLYTE LEVEL:

o On completion of charge, adjust electrolyte level to the 'UPPER LIMIT". If level is high withdraw excess electrolyte. If level is low add acid of specific gravity. DO NOT OVER PILL BATTERY.

o A fully charged battery has a specific gravity of 1.250 + -0.O10.

o Replace vent plugs and install the battery.

o The battery, while in use should be secured. and the connecting cables properly anchored.
